The trays are made in West Africa as part of a collaboration with Atampoka Crafts, a group of weavers from Bolgatanga and the surrounding local communities.
The creation of the hand woven trays begins in Germany, where the designs are made, then the construction is completed in West Africa before being shipped worldwide to stockists and to homes, ready to become a talking point or statement piece in your living space.
The hand woven basket trays are supremely versatile and durable, allowing for everyday use in busy homes. They are made using elephant grass, also known as Veta Vera, which has been chosen for its strength and durability. The tough yet flexible fibres start out as strong stalks, which are then dried and split before being dyed and woven by hand into a variety of shapes.
The hand weaving techniques used to create the hand woven basket trays are complex and time consuming, requiring significant skill, talent and practice from the artisan craftspeople. The hands-on method of creating the baskets results in incredibly high quality, one-of-a-kind products that are sure to last.
